Eat What You Grow - Why Gardening is the Only New Year's Resolution You Need! – Part 2 of 7

As we discussed in the first blog, focusing on a New Year’s resolution that is good for the mind is a great place to start, but if you’re looking for a classic resolution like eating healthy - #2 on our list is for you!

2. Grow Your Own Healthy Food

If you’re committed to eating healthier in the new year, growing your own fruits, vegetables, and herbs is an excellent way to take control of your diet. Imagine stepping into your backyard and picking fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, or leafy greens to add to your meals. Not only is home-grown food often more nutritious than store-bought options, but it’s also free from chemicals and pesticides.

Growing your own produce can also help you eat more seasonally, reducing your reliance on processed foods. Plus, gardening encourages you to try new recipes with fresh, seasonal ingredients, leading to a more balanced and enjoyable diet.

Bring healthy meals into 2025 with seed starting supplies and a garden planting plan to get you through spring:

January – is perfect for starting seeds in greenhouses and/or windowsills.

February – it’s not too late to start growing seeds and it’s the perfect time of year to start prepping by pruning trees and shrubs while still in their winter dormancy

March – is for sowing the first round of new sprouts, some seedlings will need to remain indoors

April – start sowing the next round and the last chance to start seedlings to get the timing right

May – more planting and sowing vegetables into their final growing place
